N C N W / BETHUNE CENTER

YOUTH PROGRAM

The Bethune Center is a program of the National Council of Negro Women, Inland Empire Section, a non-profit organization. It is funded and supported by the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board, San Bernardino Jobs and the Employment Services Department.

N C N W ., Inc. has studied the problem of high unemployment among our youth. The reasons why this problem exists are many ; however,one of the main barrers that hinders our youth from becoming employed is that they lack, the pre-employment and academic skills necessary to be successful in todays competitive ob market.

The Bethune Center is addressing this problem by creating a place where students can learn job readiness and life skills as well as increasing their academic levels in a positive and supportive environment.

YOUTH GOALS

We help youth overcome the barriers that make it difficult or them to secure and maintain employment, by teaching the correct way to go about seeking employment:

* How to accurately complete an employment application.

* How to write a resume.

* How to present themselves in an interview.

* How to feel good about themselves.

* How to stay employed.

Students complete work readiness, life skills and leadership training courses and are then assisted in finding employment.
